Darktown – Thomas Mullen

NEW THIS WEEK!!

Thomas Mullen’s latest novel is set in 1948 Atlanta. World War II has ended, but the Civil Rights era has yet to begin and Atlanta has just hired its first African-American police officers. Officers Boggs and Smith, facing southern racism as well as the distrust of their own communities, are held to high scrutiny on all sides. As these new recruits struggle to make a difference to their community and keep their jobs and their lives, a young African-American woman is found dead after the officers notice her running from the car of a white man. While trying to solve the murder, Boggs and Smith, with the unlikely help of a white officer, unravel a deeper corruption in the department and in the community. A gripping and fast-paced novel highly recommended for all readers, but especially for fans of mysteries and historical fiction.

I received an advanced copy of this novel from the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.  Thanks!
