Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions – Mario Giordano

Auntie Poldi and the Sicilian Lions is the first of a series of cozy mysteries that are set in Italy. Auntie Poldi is retired and moving to Sicily (from Munich) when the story begins.  Her sisters live nearby and she has purchased a house with a view of the sea to drink away her last days.  Poldi, always the extrovert, quickly meets the locals and hires a young man to help out around her little fixer upper.  When he doesn’t come around for a few days, she decides to investigate. This instinct isn’t completely out of the blue, her father was a police detective.  So, off she goes to find the young Valentino.  And find him she does!  On a local beach, she finds him murdered and Poldi feels that she owes it to him to solve the mystery of his death.  Along the way, Poldi moves from being the chief suspect in the case to getting, ahem, very close with the lead detective.  Fun and frolicking and VERY cozy, this is a cute and smart book.  The next in the series, Auntie Poldi and the Vinyards of Etna will be released in March 2019.
