The Nature of Remains – Ginger Eager

Looking for a book to read on a screened porch on a hot, Southern afternoon?  Look no further.  Ginger Eager’s debut, The Nature of Remains, captures the rural South beautifully.  Set in the fictitious Flyshoals, Georgia, The Nature of Remains introduces Doreen Swilley and her family who are entangled in their own family secrets as well as the interconnectedness of everyone in their small town.  A contemporary tale, Doreen’s story takes place during the recession of 2009 but also feels timeless.  Eager interweaves vignettes about the geology of Georgia throughout the book, which adds a lovely sense of place and permanence to the novel.
