Detransition, Baby – Torrey Peters

Out Today!

Torrey Peters examines the ways gender and families are fluid and ever changing in this funky and funny novel. Here’s the set up: Reese, a trans woman, longs to be a mother, which she sees as the ultimate goal of womanhood.  Her ex, Ames, finds himself with impending fatherhood when his girlfriend, Katrina, gets pregnant. Ames, a former trans woman who has detransitioned, is ambivalent (at best) about becoming a father. Ames proposes that he and Katrina broaden their family to bring Reece in the fold as a partner in parenting. The ensuing story is a rollicking dysfunctional family book in all the best ways.  And Peters’ creates a cast of characters who are loveable despite their flaws.

I received an advanced copy of this novel from the publishers via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks!
