Lola – Melissa Scrivner Love

HOT OFF THE PRESS – PUBLISHED TODAY!

This hard-core, fast-paced debut novel grabs the reader right out of the gate. Lola and her gang-banger boyfriend, Garcia, are hosting a neighborhood barbecue in a run-down part of LA when a representative from the prevailing drug cartel shows up. Quickly, you learn that while Garcia is the gang’s figurehead, Lola is the person running things. The Crenshaw Six is, for now, a small-time (in both numbers and influence) gang that would like to grow. An opportunity arises to do just that, and it’s up to Lola to make it happen, or lose her life. The characters in this novel – Lola, especially – are carefully and intricately developed. Lola is both ruthless and vulnerable and, you are rooting for her to triumph while being pulled through the action like a freight train. Highly recommended to all mystery/thriller fans. For fans of Lisbeth Salander and Elizabeth and Phillip Jennings of The Americans, this is a must-read.
